Estate agent Winkworth has pledged £500 to the Old Grammar School campaign for every house it sells in the Bampton.
Letters from the firm’s Oxford branch manager Glyn Buckley were sent to residents offering help to reach the £250,000 target needed for a new staircase and roof repairs.
The building is famous for appearing as the cottage hospital in TV drama Downton Abbey. Actor Hugh Bonneville, who plays Lord Grantham in the ITV programme, is among supporters of the fund-raising appeal.
Winkworth’s sales and marketing co-ordinator, Hannah Walsh, said: “The chairman Robin Shuckburgh said they would be delighted for us to help out.”
