A KIDLINGTON primary school has maintained its ‘good’ rating from inspectors who called for more outstanding teaching.

Ofsted rated North Kidlington Primary School in Benmead Road good for leadership, behaviour and safety, teaching and early years classes.

It was rated good in its last inspection in 2011 on a scale of inadequate, satisfactory, good and outstanding.

It said acting headteacher Gary Kemp has been “leading the school effectively” since head Ann Battersby went on a year’s sabbatical in September.

The Ofsted report, from a December 9 and 10 visit, said the governing body had improved and training had given them increased confidence.

It said pupils enjoy school life and are well behaved and show respect for each other and towards adults.

It said teaching is consistently good but not enough teaching is outstanding in order to enable more pupils to make rapid progress.

The report said newly appointed “middle leaders” were enthusiastic but not always able to interpret information on pupils’ performance.

Mr Kemp said: “The children showed high levels of confidence, independence, enthusiasm, pride in the school and good levels of behaviour. We’ re very proud of them all.”
