Seven models whose lives have been affected by brain injuries will get the chance to shine on a fashion show runway.
The Oxford-based charity Silverlining, which specialises in helping those affected by serious brain injuries, is expecting 100 people at the fashion show taking place tonight at Rhodes House in South Parks Road, Oxford.
Charity leader Maggie Sargent said: “It’s all about celebrating the achievements of our Silverliners while raising money for a minibus to transport them to various events and activities.
“When people suffer terrible injuries which leave them with life-changing disabilities, it can have a devastating effect on all aspects of their lives.
Our top stories
“The Silverliners who have helped organise the fashion show and who are taking part on the night have had a great deal of fun and developed firm friendships along the way. It has been wonderful to see how their confidence has grown and how this event has helped empower them.”
The charity also helps the group organise activities, such as bowling and even skiing trips.
Twenty-six-year-old Sarah Chandler, who lives in Kingston Bagpuize, had a stroke at the age of six is quadraplegic and unable to speak.
Through Silverlinings she has completed two successful sky dives among other remarkable achievements and will tonight take to the catwalk.
Speaking through a computer she said: “I’m really excited – can’t wait for the big day. We’ll be rocking the look.”
Charity co-ordinator Nicola Race said: “It’s absolutely massive for them, watching the guys go into the tailors and getting their costumes fitted and getting all the attention was amazing.
“They are all inspirational and I have to be a tough cookie not to get emotional about it all.
“It’s such a huge thing for them and it’s a chance to showcase and celebrate them. You don’t have to be Kate Moss to be a model.”
The seven models will be showing off clothes provided by women’s boutique Vanilla in South Parade, Summertown, and men’s tailors Clements and Church, in Little Clarendon Street, with Electric Hairdressing, of St Ebbe’s Street, taking care of hair.
Professional models from agency Next and TK Maxx will be joining the Silverlines on stage.
Doors open at 6pm, the show begins at 6.30pm and a drinks reception will be held after the free show.
