NINETEEN buildings in Oxford were left without power last night after a fault in an electrical installation.
Two fire engines were called to reports of smoke coming from under a manhole in St Aldate’s just after 2pm yesterday.
A cordon was placed around the area and Scottish and Southern Energy was called.
People in St Aldate’s, Clarks Row, Rose Place and St Thomas’ Street had their power supply isolated as a safety precaution.
SSE spokeswoman Jenna Black said: “We isolated the supply 19 customers as a safety precaution.
“The repair crew was expected at the site at 5.30pm and the restoration time was 8.30pm.
“We want to apologise to any customers who had their supply affected due to this underground fault.”
