The article on Chaka Artwell, a Temple Cowley Pools supporter, wearing a racially offensive doll round his neck has angered many Cowley residents (January 7).
I have had the pleasure to meet many of the TCP supporters both in public meetings as well as individually, on the doorstep and in confidential meetings.
I have even contributed money to the campaign in a private capacity.
On every occasion the campaigners have been friendly, courteous and openly convivial.
Today’s letters
Their campaign is based upon a local need, and presented in an extremely professional manner.
I would hope residents will continue to appreciate the efforts of the genuine TCP campaigners, who have worked selflessly for many years to try to save the pool.
Clearly Artwell’s conduct should be evaluated in an individual context, and not associated with the outstanding hard work of the group.
Artwell’s refusal to remove the racist symbol deprived the campaign of an opportunity to state their case on television.
The story became Artwell and ‘friend’, and not Temple Cowley Pools, which it should have been.
