Sir – Let me be the first to welcome Duncan Enright’s new interest in fracking (PM ‘very happy’ for fracking to come to Witney, Reports, December 27). Who would have thought the Witney Labour party had been harbouring such concerns? Also to be welcomed is your reporter’s refusal to make the easy link — indeed, any link at all — between the fracking issue and the Green party.
Or are congratulations misplaced? Could there be a whiff of election in the air? The General Election in the Prime Minister’s constituency promises to be entertaining, if a mite confusing.
With the Labour party’s fascination for fracking and the Conservative party’s promise to be the greenest government ever, what role for us Greens? We will just have to take both the main parties to task for the horrors wrought by austerity and inequality.
Stuart Macdonald
Green party prospective parliamentary candidate for the Witney constituency
