Sir – I was disappointed to read in Professor Chris Redman’s letter (January 1) that the “National Health Action Party” is proposing to put up a candidate in the Oxford West and Abingdon constituency in the May General Election and that “for the first time in years... here is a party worth voting for”.
In fact there is already a party standing in this constituency which pledges to maintain a free-at-source, publicly funded and provided NHS and opposes market-led privatisation of healthcare. The Green Party has an excellent candidate in Larry Sanders who has many years’ experience in local government in Oxfordshire, and, furthermore, the Greens have a realistic prospect of electing MPs to Westminster in the General Election.
They have well-thought-out policies on all vitally important topics such as the environment, climate change, a fairer society, education, energy and transport, to name but a few, so there is no need for passionate supporters of the NHS to vote for a single-issue party ignoring all our other problems.
