Sir – Work appears to have ended at the junction of George Street, Hythe Bridge Street and Worcester Street.
It took months. Goodness knows what it cost.
Well, yesterday it rained a bit and a large puddle developed by the traffic lights, because the drain has not been put at the lowest part of the road. Repeat: the drain has not been put at the lowest part of the road.
Result: pedestrians stand at the lights waiting to cross, and as cars drive past them through the puddle they get drenched.
This is Oxford, home of the world’s brightest brains. Can we not put drains in the right place?
I think I despair at many other similar items too. Who is responsible for this? May I offer him or her my free help and advice to sort a few things out?
John Price, Oxford
