A pensioner died after his house caught fire, an inquest opening heard yesterday.

Retired office manager Julian Koenig, 74, from Grandpont, died following a fire at his home in Marlborough Road on Saturday, December 27, Oxford Coroner’s Court was told.

Coroner Darren Salter read a report from coroner’s officer David Freeman that said Mr Koenig was found by fire crews at about 11.50pm unconscious with burns to his arms and shoulders. He never regained consciousness.

A provisional inquest date has been set for Wednesday, April 1.
