DRIVERS were held up by temporary traffic lights yesterday morning as work continued in London Road, Headington.
A scheme is under way to improve the road surface and the cycle route. Work started on Monday and included resurfacing from the junction with Wharton Road to the junction with Northfield Road.
The scheme involves a reconstruction of the westbound bus lane, replacing damaged and broken kerbing, and drainage improvements.
Temporary traffic signals are being manually controlled on a 500-metre stretch of London Road from 7am-7pm Monday to Friday, 7am-5.30pm on Saturdays and 9am-5.30pm on Sundays.
This is the second phase of work in the area, which started as planned this week despite the first phase over-running due to the discovery of underground cables.
Phase one, which started in October, has involved the closure of both the bus lane on the A40 between Thornhill park and ride and the roundabout, and the left turn lane from A40 onto the Eastern Bypass.
Phase one should be completed by mid-January and phase two in May.
