AS the Wallingford Museum prepares for new exhibitions in the spring, its second-hand bookshop has continued to pull in the visitors over the winter.

The High Street museum’s bookshop is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30am to 1.30pm until Saturday, February 28, with proceeds going towards the upkeep of the museum.

Curator Judy Dewey says the shop has proved popular ahead of forthcoming exhibitions.

She said: “We have got new exhibitions in the spring including one on Wallingford’s royal castle and one on the Magna Carta.

“It is the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta this year and Wallingford has a connection with it, which will be made clear in the exhibit.

“Wallingford Historical and Archaeological Society will be giving a talk on Wallingford and the Civil War at the museum on Friday as well.”

Diana Chapple and husband Harry are among the volunteers who have kept the bookshop going during the winter.

Mr Chapple, 73, said: “It has not been going too badly at all.

“There has been a fairly steady stream of visitors.”
