IT IS not possible to say exactly how student fees are spent at the University of Oxford according to a university spokesman.
Writing in The Times, former government adviser Nick Hillman accused UK universities of wanting to cover up how fees paid by students studying degrees such as humanities are used to subsidise fees for those on more expensive courses such as the sciences.
But the University of Oxford spokesman said: “It’s not a simple question to answer. We have things that are funded separately by the universities and by the colleges.
“Different courses cost different amounts so the figures we have aren’t very helpful.
“We don’t really have that kind of break-down.”
The Higher Education Policy Institute recently invited universities to explain the costs within their £9,000 degrees for a forthcoming pamphlet, but all refused.
