A HEALTHCARE fund designed to increase cooperation between adult social care agencies in Oxfordshire is set to be signed off by councillors.
The £37.5m Better Care Fund will be debated by councillors on Oxfordshire County Council’s health and wellbeing board at County Hall on Thursday.
Council officials have recommended councillors approve the plans, which will then be passed to NHS England to decide how to implement the scheme across the country.
The council first submitted a proposal in April 2014 but the Department of Health asked for proposals from across England to be updated after questions were raised about the fund’s impact on other NHS services such as emergency hospital admissions.
A total of £3.8bn is to be spent across England on the fund.
County council director of adult social services John Jackson said in his report to the committee: “We are proposing that the focus of the Better Care Fund is predominantly on meeting the needs of older people, given this is the most significant pressure facing both health and social care in Oxfordshire.”
