A PLANNING application has been submitted to build 63 homes in a village near Didcot.

Glasgow developer Miller Homes has applied to Vale of White Horse District Council to build the homes on Abingdon Road, Steventon.

The application, for a 2.45-hectare field, also includes a new building for the Old Farmhouse bakery on the site and public open space.

The houses would include five two-bedroom homes, 28 three-bedroom and five with four or more for the open market.

There would also be 10 flats and 15 houses to be run by a housing association.

The estate would have 186 car parking spaces and 154 cycle spaces.

Council archaeologist Hugh Coddington told planning officers the company should carry out an archaeological survey of the land.

He wrote to the Vale: “The Steventon area contains a number of known archaeological sites and monuments.

“We would recommend the applicant undertakes a predetermination geophysical survey of the application area to help ascertain whether any archaeological features are present.”

The company told the Vale in its application: “The site offers views of the existing settlement and the countryside beyond.

“The scheme has been designed to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by this built and rural landscape.”

Residents can comment on the plans at whitehorsedc.gov.uk using the reference number P14/V2704/FUL until January 25.

The Vale will make a final decision by Thursday, March 12.
