PUPILS at one Oxfordshire school chose a unique artistic medium to commemorate Armistice Day this year.
Students at Larkmead School, in Abingdon, made poppies from unwanted vinyl records in their art club.
The discs, donated by Oxford-based charity Oxfam, were melted into shape and pupils used each one to remember someone who served in the World Wars or another conflict.
Maisie Harris dedicated hers to her great great grandfather Archibald Harris, who died in the First World War.
Maisie, 12, said: “I’m really proud of my great great grandad.
“I’ve enjoyed being part of the art club and making the poppies and horse head sculpture to remember our brave heroes.”
The art club also made a sculpture of a horse’s head to remember the eight million horses and donkeys also killed in battle.
Larkmead School held a Commemoration evening to remember those who died in service on Tuesday evening.
Students from all years took part in an evening of art, drama, dance, music and poetry.
