Sir – Last week’s front page stated ‘City leaders ask why Cambridge is streets ahead’. More than three times quality of life was mentioned.
Keith Mitchell himself said that “they put a high price on quality and creating an environment where people want to live”. Lord Drayson mentioned Oxford’s congestion, and said “for me the striking thing is that economic success was achieved while focussing on the quality of life of people living there”.
I might add that Cambridge is ‘streets ahead’ on cycling at 29 per cent of journeys versus 17 per cent for Oxford.
Having an integrated and holistic strategy towards our economy, wellbeing and environment is outlined in Oxford’s vision for cycling, prepared by Cyclox, CTC and Sustrans, and supported by our MPs, and health leaders: tinyurl.com/mddjzsp
We certainly can aspire to better with joined up leadership and ambition.
