Sir – I refer to Reg Little’s feature with David Leach last week. I too attended the meeting with Ian Hudspeth in Witney and was intrigued by the idea of a monorail to solve the congestion on the A40.
However, as with the proposed dedicated bus lane, the problem lies in the access. It’s a fair walk from Madley Park to the suggested Oxford Hill start even for those fit members of the community but how will the elderly or disabled manage?
And, for those residents living in West Witney (and beyond — Carterton etc), the suggested Oxford Hill site will require a large car park.
Until the congestion on the A40 is sorted (including the Woodstock Road roundabout), encouraging businesses to move to Witney with the consequent additional housing required is madness and will add to the misery of travellers.
Doreen Turner, Witney
