Sir – This is my very last letter on this subject of extending a bus route north to east of the pedestrianised part of Oxford city. I was totally unaware that this had already been tried before and allegedly was unsuccessful.
Maybe it was then, perhaps now with the current climate of more consideration to those with mobile difficulties, it would be welcome.
I still feel, that this is a better solution than having buses, queuing through Cornmarket, which is what N Bleicher obviously wants.
My suggestion was only to fill a gap in the otherwise excellent bus service we have and provide for those less fortunate, with their limited mobility, young and old alike.
The cost of the additional mileage, with our efficient modern buses would be minimal with this comparative, small suggested extension to the route and yet still keeps buses as near as reasonably can be, close to the city centre.
As a conclusion, though, I will have to admit to one major omission in my suggestion, in that I have not included the current vogue of commercial expediency, in other words whatever service is required, has to make a profit come what may.
