Sir – I have never worked in a comprehensive school, and say these things not to cast judgment or to demotivate.

It just strikes me as a shame that the zeal with which infringements of the school’s uniform policy are dealt with (‘Pupils at Cheney School taken out of class for wearing the wrong trousers’, September 25) could not be applied in equal measure to other far more important areas of school life.
