Sir – I refer to Noam Bleicher letter (September 18), whilst glad that someone did read my suggested revised park-and-ride bus route, there was an incorrect assumption and a convenient omission in the response.
Firstly, I did not suggest that this bus was to be routed via Queen Street. I stated that I thought there were already too many buses crawling through Queen Street. In fact in order to improve the city’s pedestrianised shopping centre, I would like Cornmarket and Queen Street totally clear of vehicles, except, of course, ambulances and delivery vehicles within their limited unloading times.
On the next point, organising the service for the impatient and fit members of society, forgets those who are disabled, with only perhaps very limited walking ability. I may not know much, about running a bus service but I know a lot about being disabled and do not appreciate such lack of concern in the matter.
To add a further suggestion, if I may, if there is a problem in reduced use of existing routes then make a stop in The High, where passengers can transfer to a bus going onwards, to a destination of their choice and then turn the park-and-ride bus round at the Plain. Finally, whilst I appreciate there are people who have experience in running a bus service, I reserve my rights to offer suggestions in public, which may have not been thought of, or have appeared in the light of experience.
