Sir – To commemorate the lives of the 18 Brize Norton residents who gave their lives in the service of their country in the First World War, Brize Norton Parish Council has planned a memorial which is to be unveiled at a ceremony that is to take place on Friday, November 7.
Several names listed on the memorial have descendants still living in the village, but we would welcome descendants of other families who have moved away to contact us to be part of the event.
Surnames listed on the memorial are Archer, Garratt, Godwin, Timms, Bellenger, Wilkins, Blackwell, Faulkner, Castle, Upstone, Lock, Miles, Parker and Powell. We would also welcome any information about Brize Norton residents who went to war and returned.
We are indebted for the grant-aided support we have received from West Oxfordshire District Council for this project; along with the memorial and ceremony, the information on this generation of residents who fought in the Great War is being gathered and recorded with a view to being published. Please contact the clerk, Mrs Carolyn Peach, with any information you may have at clerk@brizenortonparishcouncil.co.uk
