CARTERTON Primary School is making reasonable progress towards the removal of special measures according to a recent Ofsted report.
The school was placed on special measures following an inspection which took place in December last year and given a number of key areas for improvement, including ensuring that pupils eligible for free school meals, disabled pupils and special educational needs pupils make faster progress.
In a monitoring inspection report published in May, Ofsted found the school’s improvement plan to be ‘not fit for purpose’.
The school’s most recent monitoring report recorded improvements in all areas which had previously been considered ‘inadequate’ — quality of teaching, pupils’ behaviour and pupils’ achievement.
Ofsted inspector Lisa Moore said: “The head of school and executive headteacher are leading the school with commitment and determination.
“They show enthusiasm and skill in managing the many changes required.”
Acting head of school Elaine Day said: “We are really pleased with the report and that we are improving. We couldn’t have asked for much more.”
She added: “I think we have had a high level of support from the local authority and the teachers have been working really hard.
“The aim, of course, is to keep improving in all areas towards the removal of special measures.”
