A Cowley schoolgirl has been crowned the Foyle Young Poet of the Year 2014 after seeing off 7,602 other entrants from 78 countries.
Thirteen-year-old Jasmine Burgess won with her poem The Sea at London’s Southbank Centre on National Poetry Day on Thursday.
She will now attend a residential writing week and will become youth member of the Poetry Society, the UK’s leading poetry organisation.
