IT IS the vehicle that takes teenagers across West Oxfordshire away for adventures.

But when Witney Explorer Scout Unit members return to their town, they have nowhere the park their minibus.

Now the group, which has had to pick it up from a leader’s house in Carterton each time it meets, is calling for help in finding somewhere to leave the 17-seater minibus in Witney.

Dan Causer, 29, one of the leaders, said the group did not have a base so youngsters – aged 14 to 17 – meet in Church Green every week before travelling to places including North Leigh Common and the Ridgeway for activities.

He said: “We rely heavily on the minibus because we haven’t got a building to meet at.

“We’ve been using one of the leader’s houses in Carterton but we find they aren’t always available to bring it in so it’s a bit of a pain.

“It’s a long old jaunt to go there from Witney to pick it up and we’re doing an extra 10 miles there and back unnecessarily.”

He added: “It uses up a lot of diesel and it’s also difficult to maintain it. The explorers should be learning how to look after it.

“For most parking spaces you have to pay but we haven’t got much money so we would like to find a spot where people are happy for it to be parked in Witney.”

The group, which has about 30 members, is also raising money for another bus because it often also needs to use leaders’ cars.
