A PLANNING inspector looking into whether land in Northway should be protected from development visited the green space yesterday.
Ross Crail has been tasked with deciding whether the land in Foxwell Drive should be designated as a town green or not.
If it does become a town green it will prevent a controversial junction linking Northway with the 885-home Barton Park development across the A40 from going ahead. As part of the inquiry into the issue she visited the land yesterday along with campaigners and lawyers for Oxford City Council, which is objecting to the town green application.
Meaden Hill resident Jane Cox, chairwoman of the Northway Residents’ Group, said: “We walked the complete length of the site. We were telling her that we don’t want the trees felled and we don’t want the grassy areas compromised.”

Land can be registered as a town or village green if it has been used for “lawful sports and pastimes as of right” for not less than 20 years.
The hearing will resume today at St Columba’s United Reformed Church in Alfred Street, Oxford.
