A breast cancer charity has given an Oxford scientist £18,000 to help develop a vaccine against the most common form of the disease.
Against Breast Cancer has established a Fellowship programme with Oriel College to support research, and has given its first instalment to Dr Max Crispin.
Dr Crispin works at Oxford University’s Glycoprotein Therapeutics Laboratory, researching carbohydrate-based vaccines and therapeutic antibodies.
In Oxfordshire, 520 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and 115 die from the disease.
