A 19-year-old man suffered life-threatening head injuries in a collision with a car near Banbury this morning.
The man was walking on the A4260 between Twyford and Bodicote at about 1am when the collision with a red Hyundai happened.
He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where he is still in a critical condition, police have said.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission because Thames Valley Police had contact with the man before the collision.
It is not clear yet what that contact was.
Anyone who has information about the collision is asked to call 101.
