NINE-HUNDRED homes are without power tonight in and around Witney.
Scottish and Southern Energy spokesman Glenn Barber said the fault, in the power firm’s high voltage network, was first discovered at about 8.20pm.
Initially 1,200 homes and businesses were hit but the company had managed to reconnect about 300 customers, he added.
Mr Barber said that engineers were trying to fix the problem and hoped to have the power back on for those affected by 11.20pm.
Areas affected include Witney, Hailey, Mt Pleasant, Eynsham, Swinford, Ramsden, North Leigh and Minster Lovell.
Mr Barber said: “We would like to apologise to everyone affected by this problem and would ask for their patience.
“Engineers are on site at our sub-stations, switching and re-routing supplies to get more customers’ power back.
“As they attempt to isolate the fault on the network, they will re-direct the power of as many customers as possible.”
