A CEREMONY was held at Christ Church in Oxford on Saturday evening to confirm its new dean.
The Very Rev Professor Martyn Percy took an oath of allegiance as he replaced the Very Rev Dr Christopher Lewis, who retired after 11 years as the head of the college. Its chapel serves as Oxford’s cathedral.
The occasion was attended by members of the college and clergy as well as visitors from New Zealand, the US, Canada, South Africa, Latvia and Sweden.
Prof Percy said: “It was a great joy and privilege to have so many people present and the ceremony was a wonderful occasion.
“I am going to spend most of my first year meeting everybody at Christ Church, to see what challenges and opportunities it is facing.
“We will be looking at issues like our engagement with the community.”
Prof Percy was previously principal of Ripon College, in Cuddesdon, a Church of England theological college.
