A MOTORCYCLE company has donated more than £8,000 to an Oxfordshire charity that provides palliative and end of life care.

Staff at Harley-Davidson Europe Ltd, in Garsington Road, Oxford, chose Headington’s Sobell House as its charity of the year.

Funds will be used to improve bedroom and bathroom facilities for guests.

Regional HR business services manager Emma Browning said: “Harley-Davidson not only believes that donating money is important, but that time is also just as important to charities like Sobell House.

“A lot of charities would not survive without its volunteers. Therefore, Harley-Davidson is giving its employees time off work to volunteer at the hospice, and there will be plenty more opportunities made available to our staff through the King Bedouin Foundation.”

In April the Oxford-based firm launched its King Bedouin Foundation scheme that asked staff to choose a charity to donate funds to.

Eight charities in the city were shortlisted before employees voted to support the hospice and presented it with a cheque for £8,312.69.

Harley-Davidson vice president Rob Lindley said the company regularly donates funds to charities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

He added: “This year, our Oxford-based employees overwhelmingly chose Sobell House as the 2014 recipient.”
