FLOOD victims left devastated after a water main burst in their Oxford street are still waiting to find out why the disaster happened.

Eleven days after homes in Normandy Crescent were ruined, Thames Water has yet to explain why the Cowley street flooded.

The water company was unable to answer residents’ questions at a drop-in session on Monday at St Francis Primary School, in Horspath Road.

During the session Thames Water government liaison officer Huw Thomas said the company would hold another meeting when they had more information.

But five days on company has still not been in touch with those left in temporary accommodation or living with friends.

Kara Hayes, 32, said: “We thought we were going to go and find stuff out but we didn’t. They have not contacted us.”

The mother-of-three said she has been told by Thames Water that her family can stay in a hotel until October 14. But Mrs Hayes was unsure where they will go after leaving the hotel.

It has also been reported Thames Water has offered £500 emergency payouts to residents without home insurance.

An Oxford City Council spokesman said: “We’ve kept in touch with the affected residents and did further welfare checks this week with all those who were contactable to capture any outstanding issues with Thames Water.”
