I DID not realise that this year we were having an extra two April fools’ days, both in October.
On Wednesday, October 1, we had Cllr Tanner telling us on the letters page that if Labour win next year’s general election they will get the country back on its feet. Surely it was the last two Labour governments which helped put the country on its knees in the first place?
Now the (October 2) headline says ‘Pay bonus for eight NHS managers’ and there was me thinking it was only bankers who got paid extra money for making mistakes. These two issues alone should get the Nobel prize for the two biggest but not the funniest jokes in 2014.
We will hear the same old excuses if Labour regain power and fail to deliver. They will say it is because of the previous administration and the NHS will say the managers’ bonuses were only paid because it was part of their pay deal and there was no way out of it. Who made the deal?
