THE story of the Morad family shows that our city continues to fail people who most need our support.
As a city we should be welcoming migrants. Providing the security to settle in a place is important for well being and helps people move on with their lives.
The 54 families that have been moved out of Oxford will no longer be able to rely on the support of friends and family here in the city.
It’s wrong that people’s lives should face that sort of disruption through no accident other than the rip off cost of housing.
It’s true that we’re caught between a housing crisis and cuts to benefits from an uncaring government, but the council must do more to increase the availability of housing that is affordable to people on benefits.
For starters they should at least be protecting the delivery of 50 per cent affordable housing in new developments and not bowing to pressure to reduce this target as they have done at Barton West for example.
