The letter published on September 24 on this subject, ‘Quality of village life will decline without more people moving in,’ presents views directly contrary to those held by the vast majority of Milton under Wychwood residents.
Our Action Group represents some 620 of these, many long-time residents who abhor the prejudice against more recent villagers that the letter promotes.
We believe that Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) whose legal creation is enshrined in law must also be protected under that law. Our village has grown progressively in the past (as Ms Ricketts reports) and a further 44 dwellings under construction implies still further expansion. However, village traffic congestion has now reached the point where significant further expansion will create an intolerable detraction from the pleasure of living in the village and will benefit only those few financially involved in the development.
Employment opportunities in the village are limited and residents in new houses will mostly travel by car to Oxford and elsewhere to work. This creates both further road congestion and is not environmentally sustainable.
Today’s letters
There are large areas of Oxfordshire which are not AONB and which are adjacent to areas of employment. This is where major new housing developments should occur.
