I am writing concerning the fuss about girls wearing trousers.
I attended Cheney School from 1954 to 1957, and even on Saturdays if in the city centre shopping with parents, we had to wear our school caps. At almost 17 years of age and 6ft tall I felt rather silly, but school rules were there to be obeyed, and it is the parents duty to support the school.
If caught breaking them, we had the cane from Mr “Whammer” Wainright. It did not do me any harm. Even after 57 years I still recall those days.
