CHILDREN’S author Megan Rix opened children’s eyes to the world of assistance dogs during a school visit.
She attended Chandlings School in Bagley Wood and Thomas Reade School, Abingdon, on Monday to talk about her new book The Hero Pup.
The writer told pupils how her own experience training guide dogs for the blind inspired her to pen the tale.
Year Three Thomas Reade pupil Zoe Hill said: “I thought the author was very interesting and I learnt a lot about assistance dogs.”
Maisie Sharps in Year Four said: “Megan is a really good author. I want to read more of her books and I think the whole world should know about her.”
Ms Rix was joined by Guide Dogs volunteer Richard Hammerston, who brought retired breeding dog Drew to meet pupils.
Benjamin MacLennan in Year Five said: “I really liked the talk because it showed me what it is like to be an author and how they have to put themselves in the same position as the characters to understand the story.”
