WHEN his local beer festival was cancelled, Peter Fowler simply decided to hold his own.
The landlord of Wantage’s vegetarian gastropub The Shoulder of Mutton will hold his Not The Wantage Beer Festival from tomorrow until Sunday this weekend.
A range of 66 real ales will be available at the pub, at The Royal Oak in Portway and in a marquee at Challow Park Studios, in Challow Road.
Mr Fowler said: “We will have a range of beers from breweries near and far, many of whom are brewing a special beer for the event.

“It is unlikely many of the beers will have been tasted by even the keenest beer aficionado.”
There is no entry charge to the festival.
Mr Fowler organised the event after The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) cancelled its annual Wantage Beer Festival, due to be held at The Beacon in Wantage.
Organisers said the venue’s owner, Vale of White Horse District Council, said they could not hire it because the event did not fit with a new food and drink policy.
