IN response to the letter from Clive Harrison (September 22) regarding the abolishing of tax discs, and his question about what’s to stop him buying a set of duplicate number plates. Obviously he hasn’t tried otherwise he wouldn’t ask.
Nowadays to legally obtain duplicate number plates you need to show your driving licence and the registration document in your name for the vehicle before you can purchase the plates. I believe the details are also registered with the relevant authority to prevent abuse of the system. I am sure that any unscrupulous person could circumvent this system but surely the ordinary man in the street would find it difficult to do so.
