PUPILS had the chance to experience some ancient cooking at Cheney School.
East Oxford Community Classics Centre is running a series of ancient Greek and Roman cooking sessions.
The 12-weekly workshops began on Monday with pupils aged 12-13 learnig how to make Ghastreen, a sweet dish from ancient Crete made of nuts, honey, lemon juice and olive oil, commonly served at drinking parties.
Jessica Fraser, 12, said: “We found it really fun – we got to try out an ancient recipe and to learn about stuff we hadn’t known before.”
The project culminates with the pupils putting on an banquet for family and friends of dishes they have learnt to cook.
