BLACKBIRD Leys city and county councillor Val Smith has resigned.
In a statement she said her cancer was to blame, adding: “This now interferes with my ability to do the best for the local community – which is what I have always promised to do.”
She said: “I am so proud to have been able the represent the people of Blackbird Leys and The Leys, and to serve the needs of the city and county as a whole.
“It has been a wonderful experience representing such great constituents.”
Mrs Smith, married to Oxford East MP Andrew Smith, has been a city councillor for 24 years and a county councillor for eight.
