Employees at four Oxfordshire Phones4U outlets can expect to find out if they have lost their jobs this afternoon.

Administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) announced last night that 362 stores across the country will be closing with 1,697 staff immediately made redundant.

The specific stores are expected to be announced this afternoon once the details of the move are finalised.

In Oxfordshire, 22 people are employed at outlets in Oxford, Cowley and Banbury.

Joint administrator and PwC partner Rob Hunt said: “It is with much regret that we have today made the difficult decision to close a large number of stores. It is a very sad day for the staff working at those locations and our thoughts are with them.

“We will make every effort to help the affected staff, working with the Phones 4u HR team over the coming days to support employees."
