KICKBOXING kid Max Bond was punching the air with delight after coming second at an international competition.

The 16-year-old from Humfrey Road, Barton, won silver at the first ever K-1 Open Amateur World Championships in London this month.

A member of Kidlington’s Senshi Martial Arts academy, he came second in the under 58kg category.

The European School, Culham, student thanked his coaches for their help and said: “It was great to compete.”

He went into the contest after missing two months of training because of school exams and summer holidays. But he said: “I’m confident that next time I’ll be stronger and I can’t wait to prove it.”

His coaches, Tom Keeble, Jamie Jones and Russell Jones from the academy, said they were “extremely proud” of his achievement.

Mr Keeble said: “All of his coaches are proud of his achievement, K-1 is a very big sport, it is the top tier of kickboxing. The fact that this is the first amateur championships makes it an even bigger deal.”
