A WOMAN was sexually assualted in the city yesterday, in an attack police have linked to a rape over the weekend.
Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a woman in her twenties reported she was sexually assaulted in South Park at 12.10pm.
The assualt is being linked to an earlier attack when a man in a hooded jacket followed a woman into a Headington flat and raped her on Saturday morning.
A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.
Supt Christian Bunt, Oxford LPA Commander, said: “Extra high-visibility patrols are continuing in the area and detectives are in the process of investigating these incidents.
“Reports of this nature are taken seriously and anyone with any information which could assist with the police investigation is encouraged to speak to an officer.
Thames Valley Police would not confirm why they believed the incidents were linked.
