I read with interest the article in community news (September 9) about the village of Old Marston being a rat run for commuters.
It is very heavily congested at peak times, especially the mornings. There are a few traffic-calming measures which have been installed for several years and, although there is a large volume of traffic, it is sometimes crawling through.
So to say it takes 10 minutes to exit Boults Lane is a bit of an overstatement. The majority of drivers will give way to let one out.
I have lived in Old Marston all my life having been born in the village.
Today’s letters
The road is, after all, a public highway and has always been a through road.
The same happens in Woodeaton and Elsfield and I daresay many other villages throughout the county.
We in Old Marston have the added problem of non-residents using our streets as a car park.
We had a public meeting in the village hall a few weeks ago with Oxfordshire County Council to express our concerns and request some form of action. We are still waiting to find out what will happen.
