PLANS have been put forward to extend a Wallingford primary school library and build two extra rooms to accommodate rising pupil numbers.
Oxfordshire County Council wants to expand Fir Tree Junior School in Radnor Road and a planning application was submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council last week.
Headteacher Nilofer Khan has been involved in the design of the scheme for the school, which has about 180 pupils on roll.
Ms Khan told the Oxford Mail: “Fir Tree population numbers have been increased so we need the classrooms.”
She said the school had expanded last year up to take 60 pupils in each year group.
Construction is expected to start in January provided planning permission is granted.
The county council said in a statement: “The location for the library and group rooms extension was selected due to the area having the best opportunities to link with the existing building, and to have a minimum impact on the existing play areas.”
