THREE young bakers took top honours in a bake-off at the weekend’s Big Botley Fete.
Rachel O’Connell, 14, Sarah Jensen, 14, and Mary O’Connell, 17, wowed the judges with their colourful cupcakes.
Community spirits were high as hundreds joined together to enjoy the annual fete near Upper Louie Memorial Field, in Arnold Way on Saturday.
The fete was organised by the 12-strong Botley Fete Committee on behalf of North Hinksey Parish Council.
Mary, a member of Botley’s 4th Oxford Scout group, said: “It was great fun. It was a lot bigger than it had been in previous years.
“It just brings people together. It’s just a great fun thing to do at the weekend.
“It creates a great sense of community. It’s nice to walk down the street and recognise people and say hello. I got to know a few people.”
Attractions included a mobile skate park, a beer tent, barbeque, live music, children’s entertainment and the bake-off.
