THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across Oxfordshire tomorrow morning.

The warning, which is in place from 12.15am to 10am, means heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely.

People should be aware of the potential for isolated disruption due to surface water flooding and lightning strikes.

Met Office chief forecaster Eddy Carroll said: “The humid, unstable airmass across southern Britain will remain in place through Friday night and into Saturday.

“Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are therefore likely to continue to affect some areas.

“Many places will miss these storms, but where they do occur we are likely to see up to 30 millimetres of rainfall in a short space of time, while lightning and hail may be additional hazards.”

A yellow warning means the public should be aware of the risk of heavy rain and strong winds which have the potential to disrupt transport and make outdoor activities dangerous.

The yellow warning is the lowest level of alert, warning the public to be aware of the potential for bad weather and keep up to date with the forecast.

An amber warning means people should be prepared and take precautions against bad weather and in the case of a red warning significant disruption to everyday life should be expected.
