I was sorry to see that the article about the Botley Fete in Tuesday’s newspaper got the date wrong.
It is actually on this Saturday, September 20, starts at 3pm and goes on till late with lots of local bands in the marquee.
The headline also suggested that people were being urged to come to the fete as a stand against the proposed expansion of the local shopping centre. While it is true that the local campaign against the development will be having a stall at the fete, we did also ask the developers too.
We are well aware that there are people on Elms Rise (not many, it is true, but certainly some) who think Doric’s proposals are a great idea. So, even if we knew how you could take a stand against the proposals by coming to the fete, we would not have been suggesting it.
Today’s letters
The idea of the fete is to unite the community, not to divide it.
And to have a great time, talking to the neighbours, watching the displays and the five-a-side football, showing off your cooking skills at the Botley Bake-Off, dining al-fresco and enjoying the music.
