The by-election for Quarry and Risinghurst will take place today.
The election was triggered by the resignation of former Labour city councillor Laurence Baxter, who has moved to the Czech Republic to work.
Labour, the Lib Dems, Greens and Conservatives have all put candidates forward, as have the English Democrats.
Voting will take place between 7am and 10pm.
