POLICE were unable to confirm whether a knife-wielding man who scaled a signal gantry at Banbury Station on Monday was hit by a Taser fired at him by officers.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will launch an investigation into the incident.
It comes after they were contacted by both Thames Valley Police and the British Transport Police following the incident, which lasted for almost five hours.
The man fell from the gantry at about 2pm and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, where police said he was in a stable condition yesterday morning.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Hannah Williams was unable to confirm whether the man was hit by the prongs of the Taser.
She said: “The Taser was discharged but, as this incident has been referred to the IPCC, I cannot go into further detail about this until the mode of investigation has been determined by the IPCC.”
The man scaled the gantry just after 9am and was involved in a stand-off with police for almost five hours.
